New World is on the “move” through tangible acts of service to help people experience transforming relationships with Jesus Christ.

Arlington Life Shelter

For a number of years, New World has cooked and served meals at the Life Shelter on 5th Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays.   We also prepare sack lunches for the following day.   For more information about this ministry, contact Diane Kuykendall at dianekuykendall@hotmail.com to help prepare the meal OR Terry Dunklin at sdunklin1@msn.com to help with the sack lunches.

Arlington Charities

Since 1978, Arlington Charities has endeavored to feed the hungry and clothe the poor. Volunteers deliver supplemental food to shut-ins at the end of every month. Volunteers are also needed to sort and hang clothing or pack groceries. You can work at your convenience. Call Darlene, Volunteer Coordinator, at 817.275.1511 or Audrey Koepp at 817.460.4212 for additional information. The agency is open Monday-Friday, 9 am to noon.

Arlington Urban Ministries

Arlington Urban Ministries is a faith-based organization, providing emergency assistance for utilities, rent and food for those in crisis in the Arlington community.  In addition, AUM offers a mobile food pantry which monthly distributes free, fresh food to families in need.  This outdoor event is held on the parking lot of Wesley UMC, 2201 E. Park Row.  For more information, visit www.arlingtonurbanministries.org

Farmers Market Nutrition Program

This May-September program through the Tarrant Area Food Bank provides locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables to clients enrolled in the Dept of Public  Health WIC  program.  Contact Amy Baxley at aj.baxley@tx.rr.com or Mindy Corley at mindycorley@gmail.com

Lamar High School Pregnancy, Education & Parenting (PEP) Program

Lamar High School, our neighbor, offers a dropout prevention program to aid pregnant students and teen parents to remain in school. In conjunction with UMW, we collect, assemble and provide each new teen parent with a baby tub filled with shampoo, baby soap, cloths, blankets, pacifiers, diapers and other layette needs. We also provide on-site volunteers for the PEP Family Christmas Party and Graduation ceremony.  Contact Amy Baxley at aj.baxley@tx.rr.com.

Salvation Army

New World is involved with the Salvation Army Angel Tree program which provides new clothing or toys for children of needy families through the support of donors. Contact Amy Baxley at aj.baxley@tx.rr.com for more information or to volunteer. We have also adopted the Red Kettle at the West Entrance to Macy’s at the Parks Mall. We provide on-site volunteers, ringing 2 hour shifts Thursday, Friday and Saturdays in December until Christmas. Contact Mindy Corley at mindycorley@gmail.com to ring the bell.

New World began serving dinner to the homeless at the Arlington Salvation Army in May, 2013. Each month on the 2nd Saturday, volunteers serve dinner to area homeless people at the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen located at 712 W. Abram. Contact Gayle Collier at gayleacollier@gmail.com to volunteer your family or small group.

Turning Point School

Church volunteers mentor troubled students at the alternative Junior High School next door to New World. We work closely with the Principal and Counselor to develop mentoring guidelines and with students that have been identified by the school. Since there is no PTA at Turning Point School, we have adopted their teachers and staff via a Church Teachers Association (CTA) to encourage them before, during and at the end of the school year. Contact Bonnie & Tom Williams at willtobo@att.net for mentoring opportunities and Sheri Womack at keepthefail20@aol.com or Lynda Hardison at lynda_hardison@att.net for CTA opportunities.

UTA Wesley Foundation

The UTA Wesley Foundation is a ministry to students of the University of Texas at Arlington, seeking to create disciples of Jesus Christ and raise up a new generation of leaders for the sake of the Church and the world.  For more information about The Wesley, contact Thomas Mitchell, Director, at utawesley.org. New World supports the Wesley Foundation through fundraisers and providing dinner once a month for their worship. For more information about the Wesley Foundation, connect with them on Facebook, UTA Wesley Foundation.
