Worship UpdateMarch 29, 2020
As many of you know, I arrived home yesterday from hosting a Wesleyan Heritage Tour in England. While there, it became clear to me how surreal it was to be physically in one culture that was not yet near a climbing apex of pandemic who were making solid plans for their future needs and hearing on the news and from family and staff back home of the hourly changing needs in the midst of a world-wide health situation. While the trip was very spirit-filled with tons of holy moments, I realized each day how much of my heart was aching for those back home. I want to say that I am both honored, and terribly proud of the staff that God has appointed me to serve alongside. They have been on the front lines of bringing peace and calm in moments in time that keep shifting
That shifting is a place of both anxiety and invitation. We like to “know” what is happening all the time. It gives us great comfort to “know” what we will do in the next hour, next day or next week. We like to be in control. How fitting, before the health crisis reached this area, that one of the first things we were asked to give up this Lenten season in our sermon series was “control”. Because we have a God who is in control, as people of faith we are called to not live in a state of fear or panic. The message being put forth in our world is one of scarcity and the unknown isolation. The message God is putting forth is that in this moment in time we have an invitation to reach out to both our community and each other in ways that will last far beyond this virus. We are being invited to “be the church” with our neighbors, those who are alone, and those who will need assistance in new ways. We will keep you posted on the various ways you can be the church while “socially distancing” is part of this time in history.
As we move into the next two weeks – which is about as far out as we can determine today – we will live stream our services for March 22nd and March 29th. We had a tremendous response to yesterday’s service and Rev. Erin Jackson and The Way Praise Team did an amazing job of “being the church” for so many. Please watch your email each Monday for this NEWS@NEW WORLD during this time of shifting changes where the staff will keep you updated. It is an opportunity for all of us to re-connect with our Lord and Savior and be the church of Jesus in a world in need.
In addition, to allow you to DROP OFF or PICK UP materials, resources, etc., our church office will be open from 10:00 am – Noon ONLY beginning tomorrow - Monday thru Wednesdays until the worst of the virus has passed. We encourage you to call first and let us know how we can best serve you as most of the staff will be working from home. If you need anything, please feel free to contact the church office or Heather James – Director of Operations.
It is truly good to be back home, and my heart and love go out to each of you in the name of Jesus Christ!
