GPS Daily Devotional
A GPS, or Global Positioning System, is a space-based satellite navigation system that provides information about how to a specific location in the world. Several years ago, a GPS was a feature that was added to many cars. Most cars come standard with GPS systems today.
GPS systems make our lives much easier. They help us to navigate the difficult paths that lay ahead, and when used properly, they help us to arrive at our desired destination. Using the GPS system properly, however, is key to its success.
One of my favorite episodes of NBC-TVs “The Office” is when Michael, who is the boss (played by Steve Carrell) and Dwight Schrute, an assistant to the boss, go on a sales call. For those of you unfamiliar with The Office, Steve Carrell’s character is a buffoon and he is constantly getting himself into troublesome situations. In this, one of the all-time greatest episodes of this hit TV show, Michael decides to utilize his GPS to get to the client’s office, but of course he uses it incorrectly — and ends up driving into a lake.
Now imagine that God has a similar GPS for us to guide us through our lives. Sometimes we are very in-tune with our GPS: we spend time praying, reading Scripture, serving others, going to church, and engaging in deep discipleship with God. But at other times, we fail to pay attention to God’s Positioning System, and we get totally off-course with our lives. We stop praying, we stop spending time immersed in Scripture, and we stop paying attention to God’s powerful presence in our lives.
It is times like these when we may feel lost, alone, and alienated from God. So, to help you stay on course with your spiritual life, we offer this GPS: God’s Positioning System — providing ongoing navigational help in the form of a daily Scripture, along with a reflection of some sort. We pray that this will be a transformative experience for you.
